Mafia 3's three story DLCs get a release schedule

Remember Mafia 3? It feels like it launched a long time ago, but now its story DLC schedule is about to kick into gear.

Three expansions are due over the next five months, and publisher 2K has now given a rough idea when to expect them.

Faster Baby! launches at the end of March and sees main character Lincoln taking down a corrupt sheriff who is terrorising civil rights activists. Timely. “Fast cars, dramatic chases and epic stunt driving” are promised.

Stones Unturned is next, in May, which pits Lincoln against an old rival from him Vietnam days.

Finally, Sign of the Times arrives in July and sees Lincoln investigate ritualistic killings by a cult.

It sounds like the three expansions are fairly substantial. Fresh parts of New Bordeaux are promised, with a focus on “tight narratives” throughout – perhaps a comment on the meandering open-world nature of Mafia 3’s latter half.

“We were really humbled by the response to the characters and the story in Mafia 3, so we wanted to double-down on that as much as possible,” narrative director Bill Harms has said, “while also providing players with different gameplay experiences.

“Mafia 3 focuses on the systematic destruction of Sal Marcano’s empire, racket-by-racket, while all of the expansions tell direct, linear stories.”

All three packs are covered in the game’s season pass, which has already added a number of smaller extras – weapons, outfits, races and the like.
