Let's take a look inside Nintendo's Zelda: Breath of the Wild wrap party

It’s not every day Nintendo finishes a new Zelda game – and it’s not every day we get to see a gathering of staff from within the famously private company getting together to have a bit of a celebration.

And why not? After a mammoth five years of development work, Zelda: Breath of the Wild is now complete.

The photo below comes from Zelda’s wrap party, held at a hotel nearby Nintendo’s Kyoto headquarters last Friday.

The picture was posted to Twitter by Monolith Soft’s Yasuyuki Honne, director of the Baten Kaitos games (Monolith Soft has regularly aided Nintendo’s development of recent Zelda entries).

The wrap party looks a fairly relaxed affair – note the treasure chest on stage, and the staff member in the back wearing a Link cap.

The group at the back is where you might recognise a few faces – Shigeru Miyamoto can just about be seen, and it looks like Zelda series boss Eiji Aonuma is standing opposite, with his back to the camera.

If I had to guess, I’d say the chap sporting the Link cap is Breath of the Wild’s director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, who also directed Skyward Sword and a number of earlier, handheld Zeldas.

We recently sat down with Mr. Aonuma to chat about Breath of the Wild’s huge development – and about the “large extra burden” of adding a second console platform, Nintendo Switch, while mid-development.
